What We Do: Complementary Education Scholarship Program
Success
More than 4300 children, including 235 with special education needs, have been able to go to primary school as a result of EQUALL’s scholarship program.The Complementary Education Scholarship Program offered scholarships to over 4300 girl graduates of the Complementary Education Program, enabling the girls to go to formal school. The program also provided a limited number of scholarships to children with special education needs.
The scholarship program created opportunities for communities to talk about the value of educating girls, provided girls with social and educational opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem and eased the financial burden on parents. The scholarship package included:
- 2 school uniforms
- sandals
- 10 exercise books
- school supplies (e.g., pencils, sharpener, eraser)
- bicycles (for girls who travelled more than 10 kilometers to school)
- food rations (tied to attendance)
