Objective 3: Improve Education Management Practices
Success
Over the course of five years, approximately $2 million has been awarded to 20 partner districts.
Education Management Improvement (EMI)
Education Management Improvement works in 20 districts and provides education and management training, technical assistance and grants to the District Education Offices of partner districts.
- Management Training
Building education management capacity at the district level is critical to sustaining gains in education quality because of decentralisation of the education sector.
- Technical Support
Ghana is moving towards a decentralised system of providing basic education. EQUALL provides targeted technical support to districts to address their management needs to improve school performance in their districts.
- District Incentive Grants
Every year, EQUALL offered District Education Offices the opportunity to participate in a competitive grant scheme. Funds are used for activities identified by the district to improve education management and literacy.
EQUALL works with the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to identify ways in which EQUALL experiences can inform policy reform in education.
EQUALL provided implementation support to the Assessment Services Unit of the Ghana Education Service for the Basic Education Comprehensive Assessment System, which included:
- 2007 National Education Assessments in English and Maths (Primary 3 and 6)
- 2008 School Education Assessments in English and Maths (Primary 2 and 4)
