What We Do: National Assessment Support Systems
Success
People from other countries have come to look at and learn from how the Ghana Education Service is implementing assessment.
EQUALL provided support to the Assessment Services Unit of the Curriculum Research and Development Division of the Ghana Education Service for the Basic Education Comprehensive Assessment System, including the following:
- administration of the 2007 National Education Assessment (NEA)
- preparation and administration of the 2008 administration of the School Education Assessment (SEA).
National Education Assessment (NEA)
The National Education Assessment tested Primary 3 and 6 pupils in English and Mathematics. EQUALL provided monitoring teams for the 2007 National Education Assessment. Following the assessments, EQUALL provided support for:
- the collection of the testing papers from the regional capitals
- electronic data capture and data cleaning processes
- analysis of data and development of a report.
School Education Assessment (SEA)
EQUALL provided support for the preparation for the administration of the School Education Assessment including:
- development of a comprehensive program of work
- item writing workshop
- training regional trainers, who subsequently trained head teachers and other staff to administer the SEA tests.
