What We Do: Technical Support
Education Management Improvement’s technical support enhances the capacities in partner District Education Offices in critical areas such as planning, and monitoring and evaluation. In some instances, EMI provided technical support to equip partner districts to be effective in the implementation of their grant-funded literacy activities.
The technical support component provided the following:
- computer training to interpret and use school monitoring and evaluation data
- more face-to-face sessions with district officers
- extended support to cover all aspects of district planning and management
- more regular structured and documented feedback on district performance
Frequently, technical support and training led directly to improved skills and performance. For instance, there is evidence of increased coordination between districts, District Assemblies and Civic Unions, who are getting actively involved in supporting improvement of education quality.
One indicator that EMI technical support is yielding fruit is the improvement seen in grant applications from districts over the years. Grant applications submitted in 2008 and 2009 were much improved over previous years, indicating effectiveness of EMI support.
