From Ghana’s independence in 1957, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been an active development partner in the country. Since then, in its vision of "mpowering Ghanaians through partnerships to build a prosperous nation," USAID funding assists programs in health, education, democracy and governance, economic growth, agriculture, food security and others.
In the last decade, USAID/Ghana support for education has been mostly to basic education, including providing funding and technical assistance for developing testing and assessments, promoting community participation in school, teaching improvement, assisting girls’ education, improving literacy performance and building capacity in District Education Offices.
