Who We Are: Implementing Partners

GSMF International

GSMF International contributed to EQUALL’s Culture of Reading program, generating interest in reading among community members and schoolchildren using social marketing techniques.

Formerly known as Ghana Social Marketing Foundation, GSMF became a key player in family planning and HIV-prevention campaigns in Ghana after its inception in 1993. Through its research-driven marketing of contraceptives, GSMF helped to lower barriers against contraceptives in Ghana. As a result, GSMF succeeded in expanding the private sector market for contraceptives and other health products.

Primarily, GSMF seeks to help people change harmful behaviours and/or adopt new habits to improve their quality of life. Thus the organisation also applies its expertise in behaviour change to areas such as oral rehydration therapy and use of insecticide treated bednets for malaria prevention. In the EQUALL project, GSMF applied behaviour change principles to the acquisition of reading habits.

GSMF International collaborates with organisations such as UNICEF, UNAIDS, John Hopkins University, PPAG and several trade associations in Ghana such as the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU).
