Karimu Alhassan Mohammed
Coordinator, Community Support Teacher Program
Mr. Karimu managed the Community Support Teacher program, which was implemented in the northern sector of Ghana. He was responsible for recruiting and training volunteer teachers for understaffed primary schools. His background includes extensive field experience in education in Ghana and covers several areas of literacy and education training. With a keen interest in literacy development, he spent nine years as a teacher trainer. He has expertise in developing training materials, schedule design and implementing training programs. He became a regional trainer of trainers in the Non-Formal Education Division of Ghana’s Ministry of Education, a program that helps adults become functionally literate. Before coming to EQUALL, he co-wrote primary school textbooks in Dagbani for the GTZ- funded Assistance to Teacher Education Project (ASTEP) and for Unimax Macmillan. He was an examiner and a team leader with the Institute of Education at the University of Cape Coast. Karimu was the first President of the Association of Students of Ghanaian Languages at the University of Education at Winneba, Ghana, where he got his first degree in Ghanaian Language and Culture.
